Cat Shows

GP RW SMGP IGP, GRYPHONWOOD LEGENDS-OF-THE FALL CNW CNW with his brother CH Gryphonwood Lord of the Rings pictured at 6 months. We believe that one should breed cats with a purpose.  Our purpose is to preserve a wonderful, historic breed and to build upon the work of the visionary breeders before us to continuously improve the health, refine type and maintain their lovely temperament.  In order to do this we must have a method of evaluating our progress - that is the role of showing in a responsible breeding program.

All pedigree cat breeds have a governing body of breeders within an association that council and determine what the standard of perfection for that breed will be.  This standard is a detailed description of exactly what makes a Birman recognizable and what the ideal Birman should look like.  Each specific statement is assigned a number of points that total 100.  There are some areas that have more points assigned to them and some that have less.  This gives us an idea of where the emphasis is in a particular breed. For example, a Birman has four white feet, but it also has a very clear description of the head and profile that is actually worth more points.

Showing the cats that we produce through selective breeding gives us the opportunity to have unbiased experts assess how closely our program is to meeting the standard of perfection for the Birman.
