Our Veterinarians

Through the years and many, many ups and downs we have learned that the best thing that a breeder can do to ensure the health and future of a cattery is to find excellent veterinary care.  A breeder, by the very nature of what they do on a regular basis, has (or should have) a deep respect and trust in their Veterinarian.  This is the professional who literally holds the lives of our kittens and cats in their hands. And we know that it is not a matter of if, but when, we will be standing shoulder to shoulder with our vet (usually in the middle of the night) and need to place our complete trust in their judgement and competency while we make life and death decisions together.  A breeder does not take the selection of their veterinarian lightly, nor is it necessarily based on the most convenient location.

I am very pleased with the long standing relationship that we have with Waterloo West Animal Hospital.  Both of our Veterinarians - Dr.Padmini Makkapati and Dr.Tahir Mahboob are excellent diagnosticians and the resources at this clinic are second only to the University of Guelph Teaching Hospital in this area.  They are able to provide inhouse laboratory services, ultrasound, a modern and well equipped surgical suite, digital radiography, and 24 hour critical care similar to a human hospital. They also provide their clients with 24/7 Emergency Care, so a sick or injured animal is seen by the same vet that knows them and their history. I cannot believe that these things are not mandatory in all animal hospitals, but sadly they are not.

Waterloo West Animal Hospital is accredited not only by the College of Veterinarians of Ontario (CVO - all veterinary hospitals in Ontario must meet these minimum standards), but the clinic, the staff and the Veterinarians have developed and implemented the additional processes and protocols to achieve American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA) accreditation. They maintain memberships in the following organizations:

· Ontario Veterinary Medical Association (OVMA)

· Canadian Veterinary Medical Association (CVMA)

· Golden Triangle Veterinary Academy

· American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA)

· American Laser Society (ALS)

· Veterinary Information Network (VIN)

As important and professional as all of the above is, Dr.Padmini and Dr.Tahir also bring compassion and a passion to caring for our pets that has meant more to me than they will ever know.

Whether you purchase a kitten from us, or live in the Golden Triangle area with an existing pet (cat, dog, hamster, rabbit, bird etc) I highly recommend Waterloo West Animal Hospital.
