Retired Young Adults

Occasionally we have young adults who have been retired from our breeding program.  These cats have held a special place in our hearts as they have been raised here and lived as our pets.  They have usually contributed to our breeding program and been well socialized through travelling and showing.  As breeding cats they have been proven to have superior health and temperaments.  Our retirees have had extensive testing done to ensure that they would pass the best possible genetics on to our next generations.

All our retired cats are ready for adoption after being spayed or neutered, are up to date on vaccinations, are microchipped, usually have titles that demonstrate that they meet or exceed the written standard for Birmans, and are in excellent health.

The adoption fee that we ask for them is the minimum that covers the costs of getting them ready to be pets.  This is far below the first year expenses that one would even expect to pay on a 'free' kitten.

If you prefer to avoid the rambunctiousness of a kitten, but still wish to find a cat that has all the exceptional characteristics that a Birman offers, then an 'experienced' retiree may be a perfect match for you.

Current retirees are listed on this page, but please feel free to contact us about our future plans for the cats that are involved in our breeding program.

We will be making plans for a few of our breeding cats to be spayed/neutered and placed as pets this year.

Please complete our Gryphonwood Birman Adoption Questionnaire . We receive many inquiries and this questionnaire helps us stay organised.  Your information will be retained for 24 months and we will contact you to arrange a visit when your dream Birman becomes available. Gryphonwood is a very small hobby cattery and we appreciate your patience - we promise it will be worth it!

All our cats and kittens are required to live indoor only lives for their protection and we do not approve of declawing. All adult cats are sent to their new homes spayed or neutered, up to date on vaccinations, wormed, microchipped and with a starter package of food, water, toys etc. to ease the transition. Cost of adoption varies as we only ask for the amount to cover veterinary care (the spay/neuter, vaccinations, possibly bloodwork and written veterinary assessment and certification of health) to prepare our beloved retirees for a lifetime with you.  We believe that every one of our lovely Birmans deserves to be cherished the rest of their lives in suitable loving homes.
